Gadolinium and NSF/NFD

Gadolinium is used in MRI’s and MRA’s and to make the results of the test more visible. It is a contrast agent injected into a person before the MRI or MRA. Gadolinium is removed from your body by your kidneys and if your kidneys are not functioning properly, gadolinium can cause serious bodily injury. Side effects include:

  • Nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF/NFD)
  • hardening of the skin
  • internal organ damage
  • skin lesions
  • deep bone pain
